Resveratrol Extract, Capsules and Pills

Resveratrol is an antioxidant that occurs naturally in grape seeds and skins, peanuts, cranberries, mulberries and blueberries. It is also found in the roots of Japanese knotweed and white hellebore. Japanese Knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum) is also known as Kojo-kon, and in China it is known as Hu Zhang. Resveratrol is beneficial in anti-aging, i.e., wrinkle free skin, repairing of damaged skin cells and extended lifespan. It helps reduce risks of cancer and diabetes, fights bacteria and fungi and also protects liver, lowers cholesterol level, reduces fat, builds up muscle, increases metabolism besides protecting neurons and possibly fighting Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. Manufacturing process of Resveratrol pills and Resveratrol capsules commences with Resveratrol extraction.

The typical extraction process of resveratrol includes slicing of knotweed roots before being heated up in large metal chambers that are known as extractors. Testing of plants is done to eliminate contamination with heavy metals or chemicals. Resveratrol is separated from plant tissues by using solvents like Ethanol or methanol and crude liquid extract is obtained. The separated resveratrol extract thus obtained is processed further by using various methods one of them includes running it under high pressure over a column of silica. Solvent is then removed by vacuum-drying and resveratrol powder is produced. Fillers like rice flour or hydroxypropyl-cellulose are combined to it and Resveratrol pills and Resveratrol capsules are manufactured. Similar process of extraction of resveratrol is applied still when the grapes are used. Resveratrol contained in the skins or seeds is dissolved using alcohol and the liquid thus obtained is refined further and dried. As the resveratrol contents in grapes are relatively low, manufacturing of Resveratrol pills and Resveratrol capsules and other supplements exclusively from grapes is very expensive.
